SWWHWB Chapter
Hello. My name is Josie. I am the farmer, herbalist and artist at Blue Fan Farm. We are located in the Hayes area of Woodland, WA. I am the Chapter Coordinator for the SW Washington Herbalists Without Borders Chapter.
I started practicing Folk Herbalism in 1988, when at the age of 23, I was sent by my midwife to The Herb Shop in Grants Pass, Oregon. I was to pick up some Raspberry leaf, Peppermint, and Chamomile in form of dried herbs to use in tea making. Some of my first lessons in herbalism were what plants NOT to work with when pregnant, and what plants to work with to help strengthen the uterus and ease the stomach. After that it was intuition and self learning in the days before the internet. Books, experiments, using herbs, good nutrition and hopefully meeting up with like minded folks to share.
Along the years I have completed herbal courses both in person and online, as well as attended many workshops. Currently I stay engaged with podcasts, books of course, and hopefully meeting up with like minded folks like you! I have foraged the forests of the Pacific NW with other herb folks, I grow food, flowers and plants with medicinal qualities, and make tinctures, glycerites, tea blends, balms, and space for others to gather, learn, and share.
